SCFF would like to congratulate Donna Roberts & Gerald Lee Hoffman on the continued film festival success of Yemanja: Wisdom from the African Heart of Brazil narrated by Alice Walker. Directors Donna & Chip had the distinction of being SCFF's first prize winner for the 2020 competition for feature film, narrative, or documentary.

 

We’re happy to highlight recent their screening in Brasil last month at Luz Da Africa a project of the New York African Film Festival (http://www.luzdaafrica.com/site.html) and previously at the NYFF at Lincoln Center in 2016.

This fall marks the 5th anniversary of Yemanja’s Pittsburgh premiere, hosted by Alice Walker. The event included a photo exhibit and women and girls workshops. Sabira Cole’s Sembene Film Festival was an important sponsor of those events. It was a weekend of film screenings, service, and celebration!
